Above Digital delivered a dynamic market sector video for Argus Media Crude Oil- distilling a complex global market and it's relevant information into into a sleek, brand-oriented video befitting global market leaders.

The brief

Argus approached Above Digital seeking a way to visualise their Crude Oil market sector in a compelling, versatile format that could be used at events, on social media, and across other channels. The video needed to clearly communicate how Argus provides essential, world-leading data and analysis on the global crude oil market, making complex insights accessible and engaging for a broad audience.

Their coverage of the global crude oil markets is rich, trusted, and unrivalled. The video needed to highlight this expertise, showing how Argus’ insights are relied upon internationally and demonstrating the depth, accuracy, and impact of their analysis across the upstream, midstream, and downstream oil industries.

The challenge was to create a high-concept, stylised video that could explain Argus’ role in illuminating the markets while working seamlessly across multiple platforms and mediums.

What we did

This project marked a continued partnership between Argus and Above Digital, building on a strong history of collaboration. Having previously worked together across website design, brand guidelines, as well as photography and video production, we approached the brief with a clear understanding of the brand and a solid creative foundation.

Mood-boarding and research were vital in establishing the visual direction for the video and bringing the client-supplied script to life. Our goal was to communicate the key elements of the narrative in a clear and engaging way while reinforcing Argus’ core brand messaging consistently. Breaking down the script, we structured the video into five key sections, each with its own distinct sequence. These sequences were adapted into storyboards to ensure alignment between visual design, voice-over content, and the overall narrative.

To bring the story to life, we combined stock footage, existing in-house material from previous in-person shoots at Argus offices, and bespoke motion graphics, including on-screen text, icons, and graphical assets such as maps and device mock-ups. Applied branding, including the bespoke Argus focus circle, alongside custom transitions and intro and outro sequences, ensured strict adherence to the brand guidelines we outlined for them in 2023.

The result

The process resulted in a full 4-minute high-resolution HD video, including a captioned version to widen its usage both on and offline and meet accessibility markers. We also produced a series of social media shorts from this content to promote the new Argus Media Crude Video across their online platforms.

The product of this process was well-received, being shown at market conferences with thousands of attendees within a week of its completion. The effort put in by not only our team but also our contacts at Argus and the extended production team was greatly appreciated. Constant collaboration kept ideas and productivity flowing, with updates, tweaks, voice-over edits, and even new scenes added upon client request, all delivered in good time.

The resulting video communicates Argus’ core message, “illuminating the markets,” in a global, forward-thinking, and dynamic style. It effectively translates complex insights into engaging, easily digestible visuals using animation, infographics, and thoughtful storytelling. The polished and unified production reflects Argus’ expertise, reach, and the energy of the team behind its success, providing a high-concept, visually compelling asset that builds on their brand identity and previous video work.
