What we have learned from producing two animated corporate market-sector videos for Argus Media

Animated Brand Videos for Argus Media
Our goal across both animated video projects was to communicate complex market insights in a clear, engaging, and visually compelling way while consistently reinforcing Argus’ core brand messaging.
The videos were designed to showcase both the depth of Argus’ expertise and its ability to navigate fast-moving global markets. Each animation explored key areas of interest, from the range of biofuels covered by Argus price assessments to the industries they support and the real-world applications driving global decarbonisation efforts.
Building a Strong Creative Foundation
Mood-boarding and research were essential in establishing the visual direction for both videos. We began with extensive client and market research to identify the benchmarks we wanted the projects to achieve – from animation quality and transition style to tone of voice, pacing, messaging structure, and overall runtime.
Because these projects formed part of a wider video content ecosystem for Argus, maintaining visual continuity across both animations was a priority. Existing creative direction and assets from the earlier Argus Crude video helped establish a consistent design language and ensured both productions remained recognisably on-brand.
Alongside the visual development, we managed voice-over production and client revisions throughout the process, ensuring the narrative translated seamlessly from script to screen.

Structuring the Narrative Through Storyboarding
Once the scripts were finalised, we broke each video into five key narrative sections, each with its own visual sequence and messaging objective.
These sequences were then adapted into detailed storyboards to align:
- Visual design
- Voice-over pacing
- On-screen messaging
- Animation timing
- Narrative flow
This stage ensured that every scene supported the overall storytelling approach while simplifying the review and amendment process for both the client and production team.
Combining Animation, Data Visualisation, and Market Accuracy
To support the narrative, relevant stock footage, market-specific iconography, and supporting visual assets were sourced in close collaboration with the client. Accuracy was critical, particularly when representing specialist energy and commodities markets.
These assets were combined with existing in-house footage captured during previous shoots at Argus offices, helping to create a more authentic and connected final production.
Brand consistency was applied across all graphical elements, including:
- The Argus “Focus Circle”
- Bespoke transitions
- Intro and outro sequences
- Typography and motion systems
- Animated infographics and captions
This ensured every visual element aligned with the wider Argus brand identity and remained cohesive across multiple video projects and platforms.

Maintaining Consistency Across Multiple Video Projects
Using the same voice-over artist across both animations played a major role in maintaining continuity. Even as additional scenes, revised messaging, and last-minute amendments were introduced, the consistency in tone, pacing, and delivery ensured both videos felt unified within the wider Argus content strategy.
This became especially valuable during later revision stages, where new sections of script needed to integrate naturally into the existing narrative without disrupting the flow of the final edit.
Elevating the Final Production Through Animation
Through multiple review rounds, design refinements, and collaborative feedback sessions, we were able to refine each sequence and elevate the overall production quality.
The final deliverables included:
- High-resolution HD video exports
- Captioned and non-captioned versions
- Short-form social media edits
The finished videos successfully communicate Argus’ core message of “illuminating the markets” through dynamic animation, thoughtful storytelling, and engaging motion design. Complex industry insights were translated into accessible, visually engaging content that reflects the scale, expertise, and forward-thinking nature of the Argus brand.
The result is a polished and cohesive set of animated corporate videos that build upon previous Argus productions while strengthening brand consistency across digital channels.

The lessons we will be taking into the next Argus Media Market sector video
1. A Strong Scope Process Is Essential
When managing a project with multiple moving parts, a clearly defined scope and narrative structure are critical from the outset.
As new ideas, revisions, and additional scenes emerge during production, having a top-level understanding of the project goals, messaging themes, and audience objectives becomes the anchor that keeps everything aligned, focused, and on-brand.
2. Brand Consistency Goes Beyond Visuals
Consistency in animation projects extends far beyond logos and colour palettes.
Elements such as:
- Typography
- Transition styles
- Animation pacing
- Music selection
- Voice-over delivery
- Caption styling
.. all become part of a brand’s wider visual identity over time.
Creating internal brand guidelines for motion graphics and video production can help maintain continuity across future campaigns and content series.
3. Organised Project Files Matter
Creative handovers mid-project are never ideal – but they are often unavoidable.
Fortunately, the original project structure and file organisation from the earlier Argus video made it possible for additional team members to step in quickly when late-stage amendments arrived.
Well-organised project management saves time, reduces production risk, and makes collaboration significantly smoother.
4. Amendments Are Part of the Process
Large-scale animation projects will almost always evolve during production.
That can mean:
- Additional scenes
- Revised scripts
- Replaced audio
- Longer runtimes
- Updated graphics
- Extended music edits
Building flexibility into production schedules – especially with voice-over artists and animators – is essential for maintaining quality without compromising deadlines.
