Blanchflower is a startup ‘artisan concept bakery’ opening in Altrincham, Manchester. In November ’17, Above Digital were tasked with designing and building a website to launch this new space and represent Blanchflower’s elegant British cooking.
In speaking with the restaurant owners and trying their menu it is clear that they show both ambition and a passion for local ingredients. Phil told us that the idea behind Blanchflower is to make as much as possible in house, from breads to beef mince. We took this simple concept and returned with a website design which captures users’ attention with stunning photos and well written posts, serving as living proof of Phil’s commitment to good, “no-frills” food.
To ensure the design was as simplistic and stylish as the cuisine they produce, we focused on simplicity within the page as well as in the subtle animations throughout. This includes the restaurant menu which filters smoothly between Brunch, Lunch, Dinner and Drinks. The end result was an elegant, responsive website that draws a crowd, gives them something to look forward to, and allows them to get right to booking via the OpenTable app. The bespoke build also comes complete with a CMS that allows Blanchflower to update page content, menus and news posts with ease.
We place the User Experience at the heart of everything we do. That way we ensure any interface design works well for both the business and end user, directing them from their entry point through to a chosen destination in the quickest and most rewarding way possible! To do this we fully explore all business and user requirements, define the key goals and summarise via page wireframes, which can be made interactive. The whole process is scaleable and focused on providing the right blend of brand design, business requirements, user journey and technology. If we get it right then everyone is happy.
Users can typically be placed into one of two broad categories. Those who know what they want and those who do not. For the ones that do we provide clear and easy to use options focused on their priority tasks. Alternatively for users who want to explore and find their own path, we provide the right guidance to get them from A to whatever B might be, as quickly and simply as possible.
The resulting website for Blanchflower was very much an online extension of their minimal branding and attitude towards spectacular but simple dishes.
